Not far from Belgrade, on the Danube, lies the Silver Lake - one of the most popular lakes in Serbia. It takes its name from the beautiful silver shimmers on its surface at dusk, as rays of the setting sun scatter across the water. Measuring 14 kilometres in length and 300 metres across, it is ideal for both bathing and swimming, as well as for numerous water sports.
Fans of active holidays and outdoor activities can also challenge themselves by running or cycling the trail along the Danube. 2.7 kilometres long, the trail starts on the shores of Silver Lake and takes visitors to Veliko Gradište, a town with an interesting ancient history.
There is also an aquapark near the lake, with more than five swimming pools and a number of exciting slides for both children and adults, offering hours of family fun. If travelling to the Silver Lake via boat, there is a completely functional dock on the Danube, not far from the lake.
Sail down the Danube on a tourist boat and visit the nearby Golubac Fortress, which dates back to the 14th Century, or head upstream to Ram where a real gem of medieval architecture awaits. Further down the Danube you will find the Đerdap National Park, home to more than 200 species of birds, as well as numerous species of rare plants, mammals and fish. The archaeological site of Lepenski Vir, which is considered to be the cradle of European civilization, is also nearby.
The Silver Lake is rich with freshwater fish such as catfish, perch, silver and grass carp, which will satisfy the cravings of fishermen and gourmets alike. In the nearby restaurants, food lovers can enjoy the freshly caught river fish prepared “in a hundred ways” with traditional side dishes, salads and a rich assortment of wines.
The shimmering silver water, sandy beaches, delicious food and numerous sports activities will provide your family with wonderful, long-lasting memories.
